Tea house drawingsMaterial | Charcoal on paper
This series of drawings were created during my visits to the tea house at the Chinese Gardens in Portland. I would ride my bike down to the gardens once a week and draw while having usually oolong tea. The drawings were inspired in some aspects by the forms around me within the garden, but mostly they were created by just exploring the art of mark making and letting it take me where ever my imagination wanted to go. Each drawing was created during a two hour visit to the tea house. The drawings evoke fragments of images and forms that change depending upon the viewer and their perspective. I really enjoy working with charcoal because of its ability to be manipulated with a finger, eraser, and the amount of force applied when drawing with it. |
